Fair governance,
down-to-earth politics

Open and reliable
The municipality must stand alongside residents, not opposite them. Fair governance means clear choices, transparent decision-making, and straightforward communication. We want residents to understand why decisions are made, what the consequences are, and how they can influence them. Commitments are honoured and responsibilities clearly assigned. This is how we restore trust in local politics and municipal government.
Living and
living environment

Affordable and liveable
Housing is a basic need. In Groningen, everyone should be able to find an affordable and suitable home, whether you are a starter, a family, a student, or a senior. We focus on sufficient housing construction, with attention to liveability, green space, and amenities. Residents are involved at an early stage, and plans match the scale and character of neighbourhoods and villages.
Safety

Visible and nearby
Safety begins in the neighbourhood. People must feel safe on the street, at home, and during nightlife. This requires a visible approach, strong cooperation between the municipality, enforcement services, and residents, and swift follow-up on signals. Prevention where possible, enforcement where necessary. Safety is not abstract policy; it must be noticeable in daily life.
Poverty, Equal Opportunity and Healthy Neighbourhoods

Everyone participates
No one should be left behind. Poverty and unequal opportunities require a targeted and humane approach. We want simple support schemes, rapid assistance for financial concerns, and additional attention for children growing up in vulnerable situations. Healthy neighbourhoods with solid amenities form the foundation for equal opportunities and a strong society.
Welfare, Sports
and Exercise

Close and accessible
Welfare, sport, and physical activity contribute to health, social contact, and community cohesion. We invest in strong neighbourhood and village facilities, accessible sports opportunities, and support to combat loneliness. Associations and volunteers are indispensable and deserve clear agreements and stable support. This is how we keep Groningen vital and connected.
Green, sustainability and living environment

Common sense
Sustainability must contribute to a pleasant living environment, now and in the future. We choose to green neighbourhoods, protect nature, and make homes more sustainable in practical ways. We do so with common sense: feasible, affordable, and in cooperation with residents. Green choices must deliver tangible benefits in daily life.
Economy &
Finance

Strong and careful
A strong local economy is essential for employment and liveability. Entrepreneurs must have room to operate, with fewer unnecessary regulations and faster procedures. At the same time, we handle public funds with care. Clear priorities and transparent choices ensure healthy municipal finances, including in the long term.
Culture

Alive and local
Culture makes Groningen vibrant and recognisable. From major institutions to small initiatives in neighbourhoods and villages, culture connects people and creates space for creativity. We aim to keep cultural facilities accessible, support local creators, and provide stability where needed. What has value for Groningen deserves protection.
Education

Equal opportunityn
Education forms the foundation for development and future prospects. We focus on equal opportunities for every child, regardless of background. This means attention to early childhood facilities, limiting school-related costs, and ensuring safe and accessible school buildings. Vocational education (MBO) also deserves a strong position as a foundation for craftsmanship and employment.
Villages and
hamlets

Own identity
Villages and hamlets are a full part of the municipality of Groningen. They deserve tailored solutions and clear agreements. We enable small-scale housing development, preserve amenities where possible, and involve residents at an early stage in decisions. Development is possible without losing identity and cohesion.
Mobility &
Infrastructure

practical and predictable
Good accessibility is essential for living, working, and doing business. We choose practical solutions for cars, bicycles, and public transport, aligned with daily reality. Maintenance, road safety, and smart coordination of works take priority. No dogmas, but doing what works for Groningen.
Care and
elderly care

Human and close
(Health)Care must be accessible, clear, and close to home. We strengthen neighbourhood-based care, support informal caregivers, and enable people to live independently for longer. Older residents deserve security and attention; young people appropriate support. Humanity and simplicity are central to the care organised by the municipality.
Gas extraction and earthquake damage

Law and redress
The consequences of gas extraction are still being felt in Groningen. Earthquake damage concerns safety, trust, and perspective. We will continue to advocate for recognition, generous restoration, and fair settlement. The municipality must stand alongside residents, maintain pressure, and do everything within its powers to accelerate recovery.
