We make Groningen

We shape Groningen through pragmatic choices and concrete solutions. As a local party, we know the city, the villages, and the neighborhoods from the inside. We are committed to affordable housing, accessible services, strong communities, and a municipality that delivers on its promises.

No grand words, just results: a Groningen where everyone can live, work, and grow up well.

This is what we stand for

The Party for the North opts for politics that works in daily life. No abstract plans, but concrete solutions that are feasible and noticeable for residents in the city and in the villages. We look soberly at what is needed, make clear choices and remain accountable for results.

Below are the main themes we are committed to in the municipality of Groningen.

Fair governance,
down-to-earth politics

Open and reliable

We stand for a municipality that governs honestly, openly and understandably. Residents are involved at an early stage, decisions are explained and agreements are kept. No empty promises, but down-to-earth choices that are feasible and become noticeable in practice.

Living and
living environment

Affordable and liveable

Housing is a basic amenity. We aim to build faster, with an emphasis on affordability and liveability. Residents are given prior influence on plans, villages retain their character and densification only takes place where it suits.

Safety

Visible and nearby

Everyone should feel safe, on the streets, at home and in nightlife. We opt for visible enforcement, a strong neighbourhood-oriented approach and quick follow-up of signals. Safety is not an abstract policy, but something you notice on a daily basis.

Poverty, Equal Opportunity and Healthy Neighbourhoods

Everyone participates

Inequality is unacceptable. We ensure that help with money worries is quickly and easily accessible, that children can participate fully and that neighbourhoods become healthier and more liveable. Prevention and customisation are central.

Welfare, Sports
and Exercise

Close and accessible

Welfare and sports should be close by and accessible. We invest in strong neighbourhood and village facilities, accessible sports and support against loneliness. Associations and initiatives are given clarity and room to grow.

Green, sustainability and living environment

Common sense

Green is not a leftover. We protect valuable nature, green streets and practically help residents become more sustainable. Sustainability must visibly contribute to a pleasant living environment, now and for the future.

Economy &
Finance

Strong and careful

We choose an economy that works for Groningen: fewer rules, faster permits and room for local entrepreneurship. We keep finances honest and transparent, with clear choices, especially in financially difficult years.

Culture

Alive and local

Culture is a basic facility that brings people together. We provide security for cultural venues, keep culture affordable and give space to local creators and initiatives. What has value for city and villages deserves protection.

Education

Children engaged in learning with a teacher in a bright classroom setting.

Equal opportunityn

Education should not be a lottery. We are committed to strong pre-schools, lower thresholds in school fees and safe, accessible school buildings. Secondary vocational education will also be given the place it deserves, as a basis for craftsmanship.

Villages and
hamlets

Own identity

Strong villages require clear rules and reliable agreements. We enable small-scale building, keep facilities close by and involve residents in choices early on. Growth is possible, without loss of identity.

Mobility &
Infrastructure

practical and predictable

Good accessibility starts with maintenance and clear choices. We invest in safe routes for bikes, cars and public transport, coordinate work better and tackle bottlenecks in a targeted way. Mobility must work reliably in everyday life.

Care and
elderly care

Human and close

Care must be close, convenient and humane. We strengthen neighbourhood-oriented care, support informal carers and enable longer living at home. Senior citizens and young people deserve solutions that are fair and feasible.

Gas extraction and earthquake damage

Law and redress

Earthquake damage is about people, not files. We stand alongside residents and do all we can for safety, recovery and perspective. The municipality must accelerate where it can and continue to stand up for Groningen.
